Bicentenary of Campagne de Belgique 1815

Thanks Johan !

There was already a stamp issued in 1990 for the 175th Anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo :

I thought I already had an FDC of this stamp but didn't buy one yet in that period.

Vive l'Empereur!!

Bicentenary of the Campagne de Belgique 1815

Today started the Campagne de Belgique, by which Napoleon tried to obtain a fast victory against the seperate allied armies before thay had the possibility to reunite.

He therefore invaded Belgium on June 15th and took Charleroi.

I'll try to post some philatelic souvenirs I have on this campaign the coming days or otherwise a short summary of what happened each day.

To start here's a plan of the complete campaign :

Some more detailed info on what happened on June 15th, 1815 can be read here.

2015.06.06 : 71st. Anniversary of D-Day landing in Normandie, France

I received today a second card, sent by Aurélie from another historic place on the Normandy Coast in commemoration of D-Day. She wrote there were, as every year, festivities organised in remembrance of Operation Overlord.

2015.06.06 : 71st. Anniversary of D-Day landing in Normandie, France

No big events were scheduled nor the release of any special stamp or cover. Whatever, we don't need this to commemorate one of the major battles of the westerne Theater of World War II.

Junie was so kind to send me a postcard from Normandie (where everything still breaths the effects of the landing as she justly writes) in remembrance of D-Day.

Thanks a lot Junie, much appreciated!!!!

Pétain anno 2015

A letter circulating in France was held back because it contained stamps representing Maréchal Pétain which since 1944 is forbidden.

More info available here.

It's still a nice cover with hand cancellation;-)
